TAPAS,
Little Dishes of Spain
Tapas,
for those that don't know yet,
are a type of Spanish snack, served all over Spain. Tapas consist of small,
bite size meals of seafood, Salad, olives, and many different types of croquettes.
Arguing about the evolution of this dish is a favorite Spanish pastime.
The most commonly accepted theory is that Tapas as we know them, originated
in Andalusia in the 19th century as small saucers that were placed on top
of wineglasses in taverns to keep the aroma of the wine in and the flies
out.
Eventually, legend has it, someone got the idea that complimentary morsels
of food placed upon the saucer would increase sales in the bar.
There are even Tapas competitions in Spain, where towns and regions compete
to be the makers of THE best recipe.
Today, Tapas are rarely free, but they are well worth the cost. You will
find Tapas everywhere in Spain, but mainly in Tapas bars.
Tapas Bars
Tapas bars,
to all intents and purposes, are the extended living room of the Spanish
people.
They are places to eat, relax, meet friends, watch a soccer game, have
a quiet drink, catch up on the town gossip.
If you are interested in making tapas at home, we recommend you get a
